VWER tour, MOOC2019  Digital classrooms in the sky.
And how a Digital Teaching Assistant (DTA) could fit in.

Educators of the round table
  • The event starts at the VWER round table.
  • VWER=Virtual Worlds Education Roundtable.
  • This is not your father's classroom.
The participants assemble
  • The table makes additional seats as people sit.
  • We are not in Kansas anymore.
Gathering for the trip
to the instructional site
  • Notice that I did not call it a classroom.
Information literacy
Islands in the air
  • Each island offers a collection of related items, like sections in an old text book.
  • But here people can stop and discuss what they read with others.
  • A DTA could ask each participant to summarize the content on each Island.
  • "Give 2 takeaway points."
  • The DTA might only count the entries and leave evaluation to the teacher.
  • But the mere request would stimulate thinking.
  • And encourage the habit of looking for takeaway points.
A knowledge map
  • An instructional place could be arrayed like a knowledge map.
  • Thus making the space itself informational.
Learning as a social event
  • People can  talk about what they read with others who just read the same thing.
  • Do group discussions improve understanding?  (search)
  • A DTA could stimulate discussions by asking questions.
  • And maybe build empathy by asking for contrasting viewpoints.
Sky islands create focal points
  • From your location, the DTA knows what you are reading about.
