2019 #VREDU: Second Annual Immersive Virtual Residency (SUNY--ESC). An online school need not be a lonely place. There are places for people on the internet

Second Annual Immersive Virtual Residency (SUNY--ESC).
An online school need not be a lonely place.
There are places for people on the internet.
Immersive virtual residency for an online graduate school.  Bring students and faculty together. Let them meet and explore common interests.
Online people attend a presentation

A virtual residency

On Marian Island

Marian Island is a four-region space for students and friends of Dr. Eileen O'Connor to visit, work within, and enjoy. The nascent Institute for New Paradigms, an advanced technology think-tank, meets here too. Friendly visitors are welcome too.

    A real presentation
    in digital space
    • A professor is showing slides and talking about them.
    • The professor is real, the slides are real.
    • And I am real. I sent my digital self there to represent me.
    • But I am seeing and hearing the presentation.
    • Just as I would if I had driven there.  But more comfortably
The screen from a different viewpoint
    • My view is not limited to where I can put my head.
    • I can get out of my digital body and get any viewpoint in the scene.
    • You can have an out-of-body experience in a digital world.
    About 30 people in attendance
    • Open air presentation.
    • We don't worry about rain.
    • Digitals control the rain here.
    • In a virtual world there is virtually no weather.
    Lots of information
    on side panels
    • In the digital world, panels are not limited to showing text.
    • They can also send you to web sites where you can find  more information.
    • So the place can be full of information even where there is no presenter.
    Avatars need not look human
    • There are free avatars that your imagination may prefer.
    • In a place that is not "real," you don't have to look real.
    Lunchtime in the middle east
    • If you were presenting about the middle east, you might prefer a place like this.
    There could be instruction here
    • Those posters could provide instruction and web links.

Online reports about the MALET program

    High overview of the audience
    • Easy to get this overhead view if you are a digital.
    A dragon in the audience
    • We digitals go for diversity
