In a MUVE you want to spread arrivals over time to avoid too heavy a load on the server

What happens in a MUVE when students arrive on time?

  • It is not just a line at the door. 
  • It is a big load on the simulator.
  • Check your stats at arrival time.
  • (Firestorm will show your stats. Your Kitely web page will show your stats.)
  • You will get obvious lag if lots of people arrive at the same time.
  • The load can be enough to crash the simulator.
  • You want to spread the arrivals over time.

2018 TECH: PEOPLE: Web-worlders will want their own portable database on their own computers


Will web-worlders want 
a portable asset database
to travel the web-worlds?

Hypergrid technology is creating a grid-independent world-wide community of virtual worlders.   Web-worlds may expand that community.   When we travel to different grids, we want to take our avatar and maybe selected assets. with us.  We can do that on the Hypergrid, but not across web worlds.  At least not yet.

  • In OpenSim, your avatar and other assets are in a database on your home grid.
  • Each stored item is a data-description of what it is to look like and do when rendered.
  • In Hypergrid, when you take your avatar to another grid, your home grid sends a copy of that data-description to the other grid.  
  • We hypergridders already have a portable asset database at the hypergrid level.
  • We also have Kitely Market, selling into that population.
  • Now that I am also building in a web-world I am missing those amenities.

Do these suggest a business model?  Paper dolls did.   But they are paper.  Ruth 2.0 is digital.  How can you get paper dolls onto the web.  And where would they go on the web?  How would they get there?  Where would you keep them?    This is all too complicated.

Project Ruth 2.0 - an Open Source Mesh Avatar by Shin Ingen.  Ruth 2.0 is a low-poly mesh body, and is specifically designed for Opensimulator. She is built to use standard SL UV maps using a scratch-built mesh body.

The OpenSim Community previously used Google invitations to invite people to  events.  Then one of Google's "improvements" in G+  hid the invitation process so well that most of us that most of us couldn't find it.  With a little help from his friends, Shawn Maloney found it and here explains how to use it again.

    2017 IMA: TECH: IMA takes on Kokua as a dedicated Open Simulator viewer

    Open Simulator viewer (OSV)
    The previous lead programmer for the viewer Kokua is retiring and asking for volunteers  to take over the project.  Infinite Metaverse Alliance is forking the code to take over the OpenSim part.  (Kokua was already being split to provide an dedicated OpenSim viewer.)  The dedicated OSim viewer can be modified to fit the needs and interests of the OSim community.
