An example of Just-In-Time (JIT) learning design prepared to help incoming students and meeting attendees get started quickly in CybaLOUNGE. This article is explicitly licensed Public Domain (CC0).

Just-in-time

This page supports JIT learning

  • Don't read it though carefully.
  • Skim through it if you like:  Look for any topic that interests you.
  • If you see some that you want to know more about, read it more carefully.
  • But don't bother with the details unless you want to use the information right now
  • When you are ready to use the information, you will have a better idea of what you want to know. 
  • The key to knowing a lot is no longer how much you can remember.
  • The key is how much you can find out with a quick search.
  • To search the page: click Crtl+f.  The search bar appears near the top.
  • Enter a term you want to know about.

Go there

Enter as guest

  • Click the button that says: "Guest login."
  • You will be asked to pick an avatar and enter a nickname.
  • No registration, no password, your choices are temporary.
  • The system will not know you when you return.

Walk, turn

  • If the system ignores you, click the screen
  • Walk forward:  Press the up arrow
  • Turn: Press the left or right pointing arrow.

Walk fast

  • Hold down the shift key when you press the up arrow.

Sit, stand

  • Sit: Click on a sphere in a chair.
  • Stand:  Click on the "Stop animation" button, upper right

Talk in voice

  • If you have a mic setup, click the red mic graphic. It turns green and your mic is live.
  • You can hear people talk when the mic is red.  Voice is on but your mic is muted.

Chat in text

  • Anything you type in the chat bar appears in the chat stream when you press return.
  • Others may also type into the chat stream.
  • You (and others) can put a web link into the chat stream
  • The web link will appear in a distinct color.
  • A click on the link will open the web page.

Use a web link sent in text

  • Text that appears in a distinct color is probably a web link.
  • Click on it to open the page in another browser tab.
  • You can go to that page and still talk to others in CybaLOUNGE

Chat log (World Chat)

  • Click the chat window button on the bottom line (left).

Copy the chat text

  • Click the copy button at the bottom of the of the "World Chat" window.
  • If you closed that window, look World Chat above.

Look for other people in CybaLOUNGE

  • Click the pointed push-pin graphic to open the location selection panel.
  • The first tab, labelled "Social" shows anyone in a public location in that section of CybaLOUNGE
  • It  shows the location of that person and offers an Enter button to go there.

Go to another place in CybaLOUNGE

  • Click the pointed push-pin graphic to open the location selection panel.
  • The second tab, labelled "Social" shows anyone in a public location in CybaLOUNGE
