CAG University (Turkey) has a virtual campus
and teaches a course about virtual worlds there.
A virtual campus in Second Life. A real campus in Turkey. A class in both places. Here Magua Therac tells about the class he offers in both places.

Goal
- Magua Theriac: I want to take it to another level.
- I want to make it international with some other schools.
- A university from USA or Europe or both together.

I interviewed Magua Therac,
the instructor
- Magua: Here is our virtual campus:
- tThis campus is very similar to what we have in real life.
- I sent Phelan Corimal pictures of the campus last summer.
- He built the campus from those.
- [Phelan Corimal, President of Rockcliffe University Consortium.]
- EUREKA WORLD AN ECOSYSTEM FOR LEARNING. School campuses in virtual worlds: teachers, students, mentors, developers.
- Magua: I started to deliver my course last fall.
- The name of the course is "Virtual Worlds"
- The aim is to acquaint the students with virtual worlds.
- It is a 14 week course, starting with two weeks about "What are virtual worlds?"
- What virtual worlds exist? What is Second Life? What do people do here?
- Then my assistants and I help students customize their avatars.
- We have a computer lab that we meet face to face.
- Then we teach them how to communicate.
- Magua: In the fourth week we put them in groups based on a personality test.
- The groups have a contest designed to get them familiar with the virtual world.
- And to build teamwork (goals build teams)
- The contest: We hide an object and give them a clue.
- The object has a notecard with another goal and another clue.
- [This pattern can be repeated as long as needed.]
Project-based learning
- Working together apart: Collaboration and teamwork in virtual worlds
- Essential roles in a self-managed working group (team)
- Agenda training for a project meeting by a self-managed group. Learning to plan in a group
- Action-item practice for group meetings in project based learning. Effective meetings don't just happen, they are planned.
- Project-based learning with work-groups: Not just the content: project skills, team skills, self-confidence
- Digicoach for project-management in self-managed teams: (Note: skills to be learned in doing these tasks)
- Project-based learning with work-groups: Not just the content: project skills, team skills, self-confidence
- Teamwork in a digital place. Online learning does not have to be lonely. They can't learn teamwork by themselves.
- Magua: We did this course two times: Last fall and last spring
- The last puzzle was a poem about Big Ben.
- They had to figure out the subject, then go to the London sim to get a group picture.
- Magua: On the the final project the students all worked together.
- to organize an event for Live and Learn in Kenya and raise funds here.
- They did this project at the end of the course last term and raised 35000L
- to feed more than 300 kids with a hot meal. They were proud of themselves.
- Magua: Every week we have some guest lecturers from other parts of the world.
- They have to interview business owner here and present it to class
- The good part is I did that only with 4000$ support funded by university alone
- I want to take it to another level though.
- I want to make it international with some other schools
