How do I find: 
friends, places, adult places, events in SL?

• Friends you know from elsewhere
• People you will want as friends
• Places that will interest you
• Adult places
• Events

You can also get this search window in your browser at my.secondlife.com  
If you select a link in Second Life, the system will try to open your SL viewer.

Friends you know from elsewhere

• You need to know the Second Life username.
• People who have been in SL for a long time may have a first and last name
• Like thinkerer.melville.  
• Sometimes you need the dot in between.  Sometimes you don't.
• People in SL can also have a display name.  They change that sometimes.
• Search on the username.
• If your first search does not help, narrow the search to people.
• If you still can't find your friend, ask your friend to find you.

People you will want as friends

• Fill out your interests on your profile.  Let other people know about your interests
• V3.2 Profile Button (framed head)
• V3.2. Profiles. Yours and theirs
• Check the profiles of other people.  Right click on the avatar, select Profile
• Who is near me?
• Chat Hotspots
• Check the feed first--a person's posts can tell a lot. Then check the interests.
• If somebody really looks interesting, check their groups and picks.
• Visit busy places.  On the standard viewer, the login page lists popular places.

Places that will interest you

• Check the home pages and picks of friends with similar interests
• Destination Guide (Second Life)
• Check your login page for interesting places.
• Newcomer friendly places
• V3.2 Places button (globe)

Adult places-- To find adult content you have to:

• Be registered as adult (over 18), as indicated by your birth date
• Have set your preferences to say you want to see adult content
• Use search when you are inworld
• Check the adult box in the search window
• Sex in Second Life. Find and access adult places

Events

• Click the Events button in the Header menu above
• Check the  home pages of friends with similar interests
