2017 WW: Promo: Building a talk-show set in Cybalounge: Tutorial

Building a talk-show set in Cybalounge: Tutorial
My tutorials on Cybalounge now cover almost all you need to build a presentation set.  Here are the the instructions for doing that. with links to the relevant posts.   Educators:  how is this as a way to review instructional content?

Making the set

The brown base

      The seats

      • Then I finished the seats I had previously made.
      • Building. Combining primitives
      • Building: Gluing a compound object, cloning and moving it
      • They were all done except the sit animations/poses.
      • I have not covered animation prims because I don't have the documentation.
      • But I figured out how to make the sit-ball for the chairs.
      • To have the sit-ball become part of the chair object, I took it into inventory.
      • Storing and handling objects, including complex objects
      • Then I clicked on the chair to select it and rezzed a sit -ball.
      • Rezzed with the chair selected, the new sit-ball became a child of the chair.
      • Then I put the sit-ball where I wanted it and glued it in place.
      • Then I took the finished chair into inventory.
      • I can give you a copy if you have a place on the nonprofit Cybalounge.

Place the seats on the base

                            Cloning tools and the result

                            • I want a row of identical seats for the talk show.
                            • Conveniently, the Clone function makes a row of identical objects.
                            • The cloneNumber tells how many duplicates I want.
                            • The offset numbers tell how much to offset each successive duplicate.
                            • Knowing this, I click the base to select it, then rez a chair from inventory.
                            • I put the chair at one end of the base, leaving room for the chairs to be cloned.
                            • Then I use the Clone function to create the remaining 4 chairs.
                            • To finish, I use the Group function to glue everything together into a single object.
                            • And I take it into inventory so I can give away copies.

What about a big poster or video?

                                Use cases

                                • For all cases, the the people on stage can rez video displays or web pages.
                                • They can do this as needed, without prior preparation.
                                • They will use the drag and drop method (tutorial coming later).
                                • For web pages, you do not want to accumulate more than a few on display.
                                • One limit established in my Cybalounge web-world: 8-12 web-pages.
                                • Also for all cases, the show can be captured in video or streamed live.
                                • Video or live stream make the show accessible to anyone on the internet.

                                Talk show

                                • Host and several panelists qualified to talk about the current topic.
                                • Host introduces panelists and asks questions about the topic.
                                • Video can make the show widely and persistently available

                                Student presentation for class credit

                                • Student(s) do research and make a presentation on a course topic.
                                • Instructor may be on stage to ask questions.
                                • Video may be reused in later classes.
                                • Students may later use the video in a work-sample portfolio.

Presentation in a conference or MOOC

                                • Presenter(s) and question panel on stage.
                                • Question panel is to ask questions on behalf of an audience.
                                • A 10 minute presentation is followed by 10 minutes of questions and answers.
                                • The above pattern is repeated as many times as needed.
                                • The presentation video can be reused for additional conferences or MOOCs.
