You click on a box to rez the build you want. If another build is already present, it will derez while the next build replaces it. If a rezzed build is left alone for 15 minutes, it will self-destruct.

The ArtGyro group in Second Life is holding a conversation on arts sustainability in virtual worlds. Cost is clearly a major issue. A recent discussion dealt with that issue. Below are some figures presented by FreeWee Ling, with notes I added: Costs per month
- Full sim cost: $295.00 (Private island. Mainland costs are less.)
- ...
- Cost of one prim: $0.019666 (just under 2 cents)
- Cost of one prim: 2.08 Lindens
- -
- Full details here. ArtGyro Open Forum: The Cost of Art
- "The 100 prim object will cost $23.60 per year to display."
- "a single object of 100 prims costs MINIMUM $1.96 (208 Lindens) per month to show."
-
Rez on demand
These estimates are reasonable, based on the assumption that art objects must be on display all the time, whether there is anyone present to see them or not. But you can use a holodeck to display art objects or collections of art objects on command by a visitor or on the arrival of a visitor. I have controllers to do just that, and will make them available, free, to anyone. They should work with any holodeck that responds to commands in chat. To get one, contact Thinkerer Melville inworld.

I have a holodeck display on Thinkerer Quests that contains more than 15 builds . Each build uses about 1/9th of the sim. But they all use the same 1/9th.
-
A holodeck can be designed to include vendors, so it can not only display, but also sell the art. Instructions are given here: Art gallery in holodeck-- Tutorial
