2017 OSHG: IMAWG: Cybalounge: where you can build your web-world

Cybalounge: where you can build your web-world 
Video demonstrating the tools we will use to build web-worlds with Cybalounge.  The web-worlds of Cybalounge will much like the virtual worlds of OpenSim--built by the users to meet the requirements of the users.

  • We do not want to become computer programmers to build our worlds.  
  • Our virtual worlds empower artists to build.  That is how we get artistic builds.
  • Educators can build.  That's how we get educational builds.
  • If we wanted worlds that tech experts built for us, 
  • We would play computer games.  
  • We want to build our web-worlds too.
  • And Cybalounge is developing the tools to build our web-worlds.
  • The video gives us a demonstration -- it is not intended as instructional.
  • Cybalounge is in public beta.  Things may not always work as intended.

    Road map to building your web-worlds

    • The tools are in development.
    • The instructions are being written and revised. 
    • Be sure to register on this page: Web-world under development
    • There is another page that looks similar, but will connect you to a different world.
    • Don't try this if you are not comfortable being in a construction zone.

    Getting started

    • Register and log in.   You will get your own web-world 
    • Click the push-pin graphic at the bottom of the screen
    • That will show other sites connected to this web-world.  
    • Look for the Private option.  Your site is private till you make it public.
    • Click on the site under Private.  You will be able to change the name later.
    • You are welcome to try building. 
      •
    • As with the older virtual worlds, we build our worlds while in them.
    • You may have to guess how the tools work.  
    • But you can try things and see what happens.  
    • Instructions are in development.  So next month, you may be better informed.
    • And you can ask questions.  Come to the daily inworld meeting.
    • That is at 10-10:30 am Calif. (SLT) time.  I will be there almost every day.

    • The basic instructions will be posted in this blog as well as in Cybalounge.

    The Hypergrid WIP Show

    • The Hypergrid WIP is a one hour "show & tell" of works in progress or recently completed. 
    • Everyone is invited.  Building, scripting, promotion, entertainment-- whatever you are working on.
    • Selby will be doing test video capture of presentations in voice.  These may be posted on YouTube.

    • Presentations are in voice and text.  
    • For text presentations, best bring the text in a notecard and paste it into chat.  
    • Voice presentations may be captured in video.  
    • Stills and videos from the show may appear in this blog and elsewhere.
