2017 WW: EDU: Want to find out about web-worlds? Drop by my place. I am a web-world welcomer

Want to find out about web-worlds?
Drop by my place.  I am a web welcomer
An office on the web?  Yes it is not only possible but available.  And that may generate a need for a receptionist of welcomer.  Here I invite people to visit me in my web-office at my office times.

Visit my web-office

  • My place: Cybalounge nonprofit zone
  • Chrome browser recommended.
  • Don't register.  Click the guest login button near the bottom of the page.
  • You will choose a nickname and an avatar, then enter.
  • Wait while the page loads.  A 3D world has more stuff than most web pages.
  • Click on the scene to make it the focus of the browser.
  • Walk forward by pressing the up-arrow key.
  • You can figure out how the other arrow keys work.
  • To walk fast, hold down shift while you press the up-arrow key.
  • To have a meeting walk to the chairs in front of you and click on the blue sphere.
  • Click the mic (bottom line) to turn on voice.  Or type in the chat bar, bottom left.
  • Chrome is most dependable for voice.  Others may work or not.
  • When you click on the mic, a panel will appear in the upper left, with names.
  • If there is another person there, look for green parentheses next to names.
  • People who have green parentheses by their names should hear each other talk.
  • If you have talk problems, click Reset Voice.

 Other features in my web-office

To talk with me

  • I expect to be in this web-world weekdays at 12:-12:30 Central time (US).
  • I may be there on weekends at the same time,
  • I can meet at other times by appointment (ask in a comment on this article).
  • I will be glad to tell you about Cybalounge, web-worlds, or virtual worlds.

If I am not in the welcome area

  • Click the pointed pushpin (bottom line) to see the other worlds you can visit.
  • I may be in my world--you can find it in the list.
  • You can look at what other people are building and using in Cybalolunge.

If I don't seem to notice you

  • Turn on voice and talk to me--I may be looking at another window.

Things for us to talk about

  • The web show: a magazine from the virtual worlds
  • I am seeking editors and content for sections of this magazine
  • I am also seeking people for web-based talk shows for each section of the magazine.
  • Talk shows will need a host, producer, and videographer.
  • A section is a series of issues focused on a specific topic.
  • Probable sections: Education, People and Places, Entertainment
  • More sections TBD.

What is a web-welcomer?

  • I just made up that name because it could become a job for some people.
  • It is like a receptionist in an office.  Or a greeter in a store.
  • Except it is done in a web-world.  It can be done in the privacy of your own home.
  • In your bedroom or living room, In a wheel chair if needed.  Even in a hospital bed,
  • All you need is skill in dealing with people and good knowledge of what is offered.

How hard is it to be a web-welcomer?

  • Obviously, not physically demanding
  • It can be mentally demanding if you have a lot of incoming.
  • In my web-world, I don't get a lot of traffic--yet.
  • It would be boring, but I can do other things while I wait for visitors.
  • I can set the web-world to send me an email when someone comes in.
  • So I could respond to a visitor any time I am on my computer.

Is there any pay for a web-world welcomer?

  • Not yet.  That could emerge if businesses use web-worlds for marketing.
  • Unlike the rest of the web, web-worlds invite 2-way conversations.
  • That is like in-store conversations from back when people went to stores.
  • Pay might be on a sales commission or per click-through basis
