Visit a web-world
The IMA Community website is now open and equipped with a web-world of its own.  This web-world is an import from a virtual world in OpenSim.   It shows a little of what virtual worlds are like and offers an opportunity for people to visit a 3D world and talk (in voice) with the people who live there.  Later, there will be help on getting into OpenSim and getting started on using virtual worlds.
IMA 3D web-world 
  • Go to IMA web-world site to visit this web-world.
  • Click the picture there to go in.  
  • The download may take a minute, depending on your bandwidth.
  • The picture becomes a world you can walk in.  
  • That's not something you see everyday.  Well, not yet.
  • You get first person view (from the eyes of your avatar).
  • You never see your avatar, but you see other avatars if they are there.
  • The other avatars are balloon heads. 
  • They will have nickname under them when the project is finished.
  • Click the mic to talk to them.

  • You can compare the two worlds if you like.  
  • The objective of the web-world is to give a sense of what virtual worlds are like. 
  • In a world that people can load, walk around in, and talk with people in.
Original cabin from OpenSim
  • This import also shows the advantage of working from virtual worlds to web-worlds.
  • This build would be very hard to do in a web-world.  
  • The cabin was built and used in a virtual world for some months.  
  • The build and revisions were much easier in a virtual world.  
  • A copy was  exported from OpenSim into Collada and thence into a web-world.

The Hypergrid WIP Show

  • The Hypergrid WIP is a one hour "show & tell" of works in progress. 
  • Everyone is invited.  Building, scripting, entertainment-- whatever you are working on.
  • Selby may capture video of presentations in voice, for posting on YouTube.
  • The WIP show normally meets on 2 Sundays a month at 12 pm California time.
  • The show meets at the Pandora location on the second Sunday 
  • But will not meet in the summer.
  • And at Cookie II on the fourth Sunday.  
  • To keep up with the WIP meetings, join the Kitely group, Work in progress.
