The tech generation: Visit to a web-world.
Why a MOOC is better than a conference.

Why a MOOC is better than a conference.
At least it is for the tech population, the people who are comfortable using computers, the internet and the web. For those not yet in the tech population, a MOOC is a massive open online course. Since it is available over the internet, it requires no travel, can be held over a month rather than a weekend, and can easily be captured in video for lasting availability on the the web.
A Visit to a Web-Based Miniature Virtual World
Mook
A massive open online course (MOOC) is an online course aimed at unlimited participation and open access via the web In addition to traditional course materials such as filmed lectures, readings, and problem sets, many MOOCs provide interactive user forums to support community interactions among students, professors, and teaching assistants (TAs). --Wikipedia-

Mook advantages over Conferences
- Presented on the web. Attend in your own office or home.
- No travel, no travel cost, no travel time, no travel hassle.
- Can extend over a month or more.
- No need to have time conflicts when you have a month.
- No need to work out schedules. Let presenters pick their own times.
- No need cut the proposals to fit in a weekend.
- No need to work with hotels and travel agencies.
- No weather problems. It does not snow on the internet.
- Lots of presentation resources for internet presentation.
Special advantages of presentations in virtual worlds
- Free video capture resources; all the presentations can be captured for reuse.
- Presenters experienced in virtual worlds can provide most of their own support.
- Slide and video support are readily available "locally."
- Simple video editing with Shotcut, for virtual worlders
- Free video resources for virtual worlds: Screen capture beyond FRAPS
- Cybalounge build: put a video in your web-world
Could you do this in a web-world?
- Most of the parts are there.
- You can put a web-walk into a web-world.
- Building in Cybalounge HTML page prim: Put the web in your web-world
- We do not know how many people we can get into a web-world.
- And we don't know how many people would overload the current voice system.
- We do know ways to raise the limits if needed.
- But we cannot say that current web-worlds could handle a MOOC.
