2019 EDU: BIZ: Presenting in a virtual world (MUVE). Use the web, use the environment

Preparing a presentation for a virtual world (MUVE).
This is the internet--use the web
How you can use the affordances of MUVEs (virtual worlds) to make a presentation that is both informative and efficient: blog, web, video, and animated diorama.
Waterstage
  • Pleasant virtual weather allows outdoor presentations.
  • A virtual auditorium looks much like the ones we are used to.
  • For a conference, Kitely Organizations would work well.
  • You can use the web to organize and amplify your content.
  • You can change the environment to suit your topic.
  • You can present 3D scenes instead of pictures on slides.
  • A 3d scene is a diorama, such as you see in a museum.
  • You can bring a museum to your presentation.
  • But there is no glass to keep people from getting too close.
  • You can even create the scene while you talk about it.
  • And your audience can walk around in the scene while you speak.

Road map for preparing an instructive presentation

  • What questions of interest to your audience will your presentation answer?
  • Why will they want to ask those questions?
  • What do they already know that will connect to these questions?
  • Do you have a blog or web site where you can promote your presentation?
  • What web pages will provide background information for the presentation?
  • What web pages will supplement the presentation?
  • What  web pages should a person follow to keep up with future developments?
  • Will you post the questions as part of promoting the presentation?
  • Will you post relevant links from the above along with the questions?
  • Then your oral presentation will answer each question.
  • You will probably use the questions as bullet points with Summary as the last.
  • The links will serve as references to support and amplify what you say.

Modernized presentation: start with a blog

Instead of slides, use articles on your blog

  • The part above the break should make a good slide.
  • The part after the break can show the details and relevant links.
  • That part can also carry answers from question period.
  • Most MUVEs have a way to display web pages as part of a presentation.
  • And to provide links to web pages that open in browser tabs.
  • The web pages remain available to support further study of your presentation.
  • You can update them with new information in the future.

Go beyond the flat web to animated dioramas

  • Start in a virtual auditorium if you want. That's what people are accustomed to.
  • Then remove the walls of the auditorium to show dioramas that fit your topic.
  • Remove walls?  Easy in a MUVE.
  • Make dioramas?  Not from scratch.  You can buy things from Kitely Market.
  • Or you might use Rezmela.

Have an assistant monitor local chat

  • People in the audience can type questions and answers in local chat.
  • An assistant can pick up questions for you to discuss later.
  • You can answer questions at the end of each segment if you like.
  • The assistant could answer some questions with a web link.
  • Live web links can be offered in chat.
