Cybalounge build: put a video in your web-world
Cybalounge build tutorial:  Instructions for embedding a video tutorial in a web-world.

Video poster and video in popup
  • The popup offers the same controls offered on the YouTube page
  • You can also have the video open in another web tab.
  • You can have the video show on the HTML screen, but with less viewer control.

Why put a video in a web-world?

  • You have a video that tells your story. 
  • People can watch it if nobody else is there. 
  • People can watch it if you you or your agent is there. 
  • Your agent can talk to people about it, answer questions and give more info about it. 
  • - 
  • You may have a video made to help couples, families, or others solve problems. 
  • Couples, families, or others can watch the video together in your web-world. 
  • You may be able to have a counselor or facilitator there to help. 
  • Your web-world can be as secure as any other web page. 
  • - 
  • You are holding a class in a web-world. 
  • You present a video for the class to discuss. 
  • - 
  • You are marketing products or services. 
  • Your agent can show videos as part of the sales presentation.

Embedding a video clip in the HTML primitive

How to get the url (a litle geekery here)

  • The method I used with YouTube is as follows:
  • Go to the YouTube page, click Share, then Embed. 
  • You can't use that embed code as is, but you can get the unique identifier.
  • -
  • Find the part that looks like this: 
  • src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/PtK6wdCgKnY"
  • The part in bold is the unique identifier and will be different for each video.
  • Note that it follows embed/ and stops just before the close quote.
  • Copy/paste the unique identifier to replace the bold text below. 
  • https://www.youtube.com/embed/PtK6wdCgKnY?autoplay=1&loop=1&start=1
  • Use the url in the HTML page prim as described here:

  • This url creation method may not work for other video hosts.
  • But I cannot recommend other video hosts because they pull videos quickly 
  • I used to embed them in my blog,  go back in a few months and find the video gone.

Open the video in a popup or another tab

  • In a popup or another tab, the user can stop the video and restart at the stop place.
  • In another tab gives the user the url to save or copy for reuse.  
  • The user can pull the new tab off the browser and watch the video
Settings for display in popup
  • To display in another tab, don't check the popup box.

Display on the HTML prim

  • If you don't set an event, the video will probably play on the prim when the world starts.
  • If you have more than one video, you will not want that.
  • Add an event action (TOGGLE_HTML) to the primitive. 
  • This way the user may start/stop (and restart from the beginning) by click on the prim.
  • Be sure to provide the URL of the video for the Event url parameter as well.
  • I don't see that these options are likely to be useful.

The Hypergrid WIP Show

  • The Hypergrid WIP is a one hour "show & tell" of works in progress. 
  • Everyone is invited.  Building, scripting, entertainment-- whatever you are working on.
  • Selby may capture video of presentations in voice, for posting on YouTube.
  • The WIP show normally meets on 2 Sundays a month at 12 pm California time.
  • The show meets at the Pandora location on the second Sunday 
  • But will not meet in the summer.
  • And at Cookie II on the fourth Sunday.
