Wow! You want one of these. You won't know why until you watch these kids play with it. Then you will use the usual virtual worlds slogan: "I had forgotten how much fun it is to play!"


Details on Augmented Reality Sandbox

  • NSF-funded project on informal science education for freshwater lake and watershed science.
  • 3D visualization applications to teach earth science concepts.
  • Hands-on exhibit combining a real sandbox, and virtual topography and water
  • Microsoft Kinect 3D camera, powerful simulation and visualization software, and a data projector
  • system teaches geographic, geologic, and hydrologic concepts.

Project Goal

The goal of this project was to develop a real-time integrated augmented reality system to physically create topography models which are then scanned into a computer in real time, and used as background for a variety of graphics effects and simulations. The final product is supposed to be self-contained to the point where it can be used as a hands-on exhibit in science museums with little supervision.

How to handle a Hypergrid address 

From any Hypergrid-enabled grid, paste the address into the navigation bar of Firestorm and press enter. Or paste it into the world map search bar of any viewer, search, and click Teleport when the destination is found. If it doesn't work, don't give up. Try again in a minutes.  Sometimes the first try fails (probably times out).  And try again a few hours later. Some hypergrid destinations are offline part of the day.
