Second Choice?  Why not first? 

• Google+ is my top choice for a social media to promote projects.

• Facebook has twice as many people
• But it depends on what you are looking for
• Looking for girls from Ghana who want to get to know you better?
• Looking for hundreds of requests to join in games?
• Like to see trick ads that look like regular posts? 
• Then Facebook is for you.
• Looking for people with serious tech experience and serious interests? 
• They already went to G+

Fortunately it is not either-or.  Because Facebook does have a lot to offer

Facebook has lots of groups focused on topics of interest in Second Life and other virtual worlds.  If you find a large Facebook group with interests in what you want to promote, Facebook could well be your top choice.  

• In Facebook, search for 
• virtual worlds
• My search there turned up over 1000 groups
• Note the membership size

• To narrow the search, use search on page
• In Chrome, press Ctrl+f.  Search bar will appear upper right
• Other browsers may respond to Ctrl+f  too
• The search will include title and description of the group.

• I searched for edu and found these 
• Virtual World Educators
• Virtual Worlds Association (SL, Opensim, Hypergrid)
• Virtual Worlds - Best Practices in Education
• Virtual Worlds Education Roundtable

If there is no such group, you might want to form one.  But you might also want to form a Google+ community.  Then you could get the best of both worlds.
