I assume the Gold Hunt is selling traffic. And teaching the elements of exploring.  And, yes it is a social game.  There is a group (Linden Gold Hunters) that provides the Gold Hunters a chat line.   So they can be anywhere on the grid and still talk. The group has over 2600.  Sounds like it is working.
