Side services from grids.  Search, events, messages. 
Product differentiation
In addition to running a version of the OpenSimulator software, grids can offer support services such as search, message handling, event calendar, backup, recovery, forums, and technical help. They can offer these, but they may not. Commercial grids may be providing these services or are probably considering them.

In SL we took some services for granted 

There were also services we wished we could take for granted

  • Technical help
  • Prompt attention to system problems
  • We probably do get these from the commercial grids.
  • I know we get them from Kitely.  I think they also provided in Digiworldz.

    We are building new worlds in the digital metaverse.  
    We don't need to keep to the old ways 
    When Second Life first made a user-built virtual world available to us, we wanted the world to look like the familiar Old World.   But do we want to continue with buildings? Maybe for some purposes.  But maybe for other purposes we want to redesign the virtual world to suit our new purposes.

    • Maybe for beginners we want to make the place look familiar
    • But we carry over lots of stuff we don't need. 
    • Some of it is just useless clutter
    • Some of it gets in the way of what we want to do. 
    • Here are some things to reconsider.

      Following up on the public opening of the Nonprofit Commons Web-world, we here offer more details of the planned operation and ask for feedback on what we need to do to bring the world into usable condition.

      Learning curves

      • If you know how to use a browser, 
      • the learning curve for visitor is almost flat. 
      • -
      • If you are familiar with virtual worlds,
      • being a host should be easy.

      Features added

      • Web links in chat are clickable to open the page.
      • Stop animation button moved to be clear of text area.
      • Lighthouse beam no longer moves (was distracting to some people).

      shawnkmaloney Craftgrid made a Google calendar for events on the Hypergrid.  You can add this calendar to your other Google calendars, use it to put events on your own google calendar, or embed the calendar in your blog or web site.  I will make a poster (1 prim object)  for this calendar and give it away to anyone.

          2017 PEOPLE: The Hypergrid work in progress (WIP) show, March meeting on Cookie II

          • Everyone is invited.  Building, scripting, promotion, entertainment-- whatever you are working on.
          • Presentations are in voice and text.  
          • For text presentations, best bring the text in a notecard and paste it into chat.  
          • Voice presentations may be captured in video.  tio
          • Stills and videos from the show may appear in this blog and elsewhere.
          • The show meets two times a month.

            2017 PEOPLE: HG Safari at OMG grid. A little sailing, a little dancing

            HG Safari at OMG grid.  
            A little sailing, a little dancing.
            The HG Safari travels the Hypergrid every week in search of new discoveries.  On this trip we visited a new grid, the OMG grid to enjoy the amenities they offer.   And perhaps how the grid got its name. You can find the answer in the pictures.

The Metaverse Tour visits a place where therapists and educators (and others who want to learn) can explore and sexuality and gender (LGBT) issues.
