Writers of Greyville: Story seeds:
The last werewolf of Blanken, part 1
Virtual worlds offer a unique opportunity to use the environment and character appearance as supports for ideation in a writers workshop. Here I report on a developing plan to do just that the virtual worlds of OpenSimulator.
Murky Mansion
Writers workshop: The plan this far
- The Monday night writers group of Nara's Nook is developing workshops.
- These would be for people interested in developing their writing skills.
- The initial project aims at developing ideation skills and confidence in them.
- Method: Present a virtual environment and challenges calling for ideation about stories.
- We presently have 2 places to work with: Fantasy Place and Gloomy Manor
- Both have now been salted with challenges based on the local environment.
- Gloomy Manor also has story seeds in the form of notes.
- The notes, on click, give notecards with pieces of a story.
- A visitor can collect the notecards and develop possible scenarios that fit the notes.
- The story is not yet finished and is not an important part of the exercise.
- A visitor can develop alternative scenarios from ideas that come from the notecards.

Ideation
Ideation is the creative process of generating, developing, and communicating new ideas, where an idea is understood as a basic element of thought that can be either visual, concrete, or abstract.[1] Ideation comprises all stages of a thought cycle, from innovation, to development, to actualization.[2] Ideation can be conducted by individuals, organizations, or crowds. As such, it is an essential part of the design process, both in education and practice.[3]
Werewolf
In folklore, a werewolf (Old English: werwulf, "man-wolf") or occasionally lycanthrope /ˈlaɪkənˌθroʊp/ (Greek: λυκάνθρωποςlukánthrōpos, "wolf-person") is a human with the ability to shapeshift into a wolf (or, especially in modern film, a therianthropichybrid wolflike creature), either purposely or after being placed under a curse or affliction (often a bite or scratch from another werewolf). -- Wikipedia
Note 1 from Father Dark
The note says:
- A coward's mission. But I will be free of this curse, as will Blanken.
- The winged virgin told me of a more benign way.
- By a flower that blooms in Fantasy Place.
- And she told me of a gate here, on this island, to Fantasy Place.
- But I cannot find it
- And I cannot live with this curse any longer.
- Eric can release me the hard way.
- He does not know me yet, but the full moon comes soon.
- He will know me then. And he will come. I will not hide.
- (Inciting incident: the hook)
Note 1 from Eric
- Friday
- My dearest brother, I am called to Blanken on my destined service.
- They have seen another at the churchyard and I must do my duty.
- I am loathe to leave you on this night of the howler's moon, but I must.
- This "gift" of mine is also a curse. But it is what it is and I must live it.
- I hope to return Sunday with news that Blanken is cleansed.
- Eric
