Suggestions as to how a virtual world library can serve the educational programs in the virtual worlds, along with a demonstration of how to provide live help on a regular schedule

• A library is not a building, it is a collection of informative resources.
• The most important resource is a librarian.  
• Great resources are only useful if you can find them.
• A librarian can find the resources the student needs.

The trident model for librarian help

1.  Live online help at set times.
2.  Responses to written queries.
3.  Live help available by appointment.

A draft prospectus for the development of a Digital Teaching Assistant as part of a virtual world intended for teaching.   The draft gives a preliminary job description, notes some parts that are currently available, and suggests some parts that could merit development efforts now.   This article is explicitly licensed Public Domain (CC0).

• Direct service to teacher: Suggest links and events of interest. 
• Manage record-keeping: attendance, execution and performance levels of activities.
• Provide instruction and coaching in use of the virtual world.
• Coach students on learning skills that fit individual styles.
• Coach students and teams of students on projects.
• Help students find reliable content resources for the subject.
• Some of this is already available; other parts would need development.
• A digital teaching assistant (DTA) in a virtual world. Can it be done?
• Digital coaching is needed for the DTA: Do we have the technology for that?
• Just-In-Time (JIT) learning in virtual schools, maybe with DTA coaching. Language as an example
• Digicoach can support homework in virtual worlds with JIT learning, immediate feedback
• The digital teacher assistant and FERPA: there are security issues

Coopersville is a MUVE (virtual world) model of a US town of the early 20th Century.  It has houses of that era (houses of the Victorian and Edwardian times), offers clothing of that period, has transportation of that period (streetcars, early Fords, and horses), plays music of that time (especially ragtime), and has the early flying things (Wright Flyer, hot air balloons).  Just right for a site visit by a class studying that part of history.
