2017 EDU: A visit to ancient Rome

A visit to ancient Rome
A short video of some aspects of ancient Rome as presented by Ferd Frederix in Outworldz, with some suggestions on how to use it in instruction.

Go there

  • Outworldz: the grid cannot be reached from the web.  
  • You go to any OpenSim grid on the Hypergrid (HG) and take the HG from there.

  • HG Address Outwordz Welcome Center:
  • http://www.outworldz.com:9000
  • or
  • www.outworldz.com:9000
  • Put the HG address in the Find bar of your world map. Click Find, TP
  • At the Welcome Center, find the wall poster for the Egypt and Rome, and click for TP
  • DO NOT use the world map to go there.
  • Note: Some people have run into problems in getting to Outworldz grid. 
  • If you can't get there, try from another location or try another day.
  • Outwolrdz has the kind of IP address that changes from time to time.
  • If the grid you are using has not gotten the update, it won't find Outwordz.
  • Maybe it will get undated in a day or so.

    The YesButters will complain

    Teacher: 
    You can use inaccuracies in teaching.  Challenge the students to find them.  That is how I teach them critical thinking and critical evaluation of information they find.  It also makes them pay careful attention to the content.  I may also ask them to cite historical accuracies. --  When one sees a problem, the more creative and more useful way to use that information is to look for ways to make use of that information, as opposed to treating it as an insurmountable barrier.

    • The Hypergrid WIP is a one hour "show & tell" of works in progress or recently completed. 
    • Everyone is invited.  Building, scripting, promotion, entertainment-- whatever you are working on.
    • Selby will be doing test video capture of presentations in voice.  These may be posted on YouTube.

    • For text presentations, best bring the text in a notecard and paste it into chat.  
    • Voice presentations may be captured in video.  
    • Stills and videos from the show may appear in this blog and elsewhere.
