        2017 WW: IMA: PROMO: IMA web-world gives a sample of virtual worlds. Join a meeting, talk to live people from the other side.

        Join a meeting, talk to live people from the other side.
        Infinite Metaverse Alliance has begun to develop a small 3D world (a web-world) that runs in a browser.  It is only a sample of what can be done in bigger 3D virtual worlds, but they require you to install a viewer.  This sample lets you see what a virtual world is like and to talk to some of the real people who populate the virtual worlds.  Here we introduce the beta version.
        IMA web-world, 
        beginner's instructions
        • IMA web-world
        • To Begin: Click on the image to begin MOUSELOOK (Accept permissions if asked).
        • To exit MouseLook Press escape.
        • Mouselook is first person, as if you are looking through your own eyes.
        • To Walk: Keys WASD to move Forward, Back, Left and Right.
        • To Change Direction: Move your mouse in the direction you wish to go.
        • To Fly Up: Keys Q or E.
        • To Fly Down: Keys Z or C
        • Note: some choices are forced because the page is embedded in the browser.

        Milestones

        • The cabin was imported from OpenSimulator. 
        • That shows that we can build web-worlds from OS resources.
        • Voice was adequate to handle a meeting of a least 10 people.

        Come in, we are expecting you

        • This web world will probably be occupied when IMA holds meetings.
        • IMA has scheduled meetings at 1:30 California time on Wednesdays and Fridays.
        • I expect to be at most of those meetings and I will be in this IMA web-world also.

            2017 PEOPLE: VIDEO: Dancing in OpenSim: Osgrid and Zangid. Okay, we do party a lot.

            Dancing in OpenSim.  Okay, we do party a lot.  
            Videos made at dances in OpenSim.  A wizard, a cool cat, and some cowboys at a barn dance.  

            You would think all we do in OpenSim is dance. Of course, when our avatars do the dancing we don't get tired. But here I singled out a wizard and a cool cat to show how we dance in virtual worlds.

              It won't automatically mess up your mesh
              A summary of the information I have gathered from discussions about the effect of ubODE on mesh objects, with excerpts from the original sources.
              • Yes, ubODE may "break" a lot of mesh objects.
              • But the default physics engine for 0.9.x is BulletSim.
              • The ubODE engine is optional.  If you are concerned about mesh, don't use it.
              • The concrete meaning of breaking mesh is either:
              • Objects that need act like solids (floors and walls) are phantom.
              • OR: Objects that are supposed to be solid get an invisible hull around them.
              • Technically the hull is called a convex hull, but it is like the hull of a pecan.
              • You can't walk through doors or may walk well above the visible surface.
              • If your mesh objects are okay phantom, you won't care.
              • Kitely will probably convert any problem object to phantom.  
              • Some other grids may do that too.
              • The real problem is that the mesh objects were incorrectly uploaded.

                  2017 WW: EDU: Demo web-world for education and presentations

                  Demo web-world for education and presentations
                  A hypertext presentation setup is displayed in my nonprofit web-world.  It is a web-walk, a little like power-point, but instead of bullet points, I use web pages arranged as a walkway.  As a presentation, I would walk along and offer integrating comments about each panel.  People can click on a panel and read the detail.  I don't have to talk much and that leaves more time for questions.

                  • It is incomplete, but can show how to offer instruction in a web-world.
                  • There is also enough for preliminary development of a custom web-world.

                    2016 WRITE: Writers of the Hypergrid. Creative Collaboration.

                    Creative collaboration
                    People with common interests can work together in virtual worlds.  With a little imagination, it is like a face-to-face meeting.  And writers have more than a little imagination.  I suggest forming a creative writing group in a web-world.   The initial activity of this group might be a regular meeting in which we do cold reads of dialogs written by members of the writers community.

                    How can writers get together? 

                    A short story as a writing exercise

                    The writers group at Nara's Nook (in OpenSIm) has started a learning and production project using the guide book "The 90-day novel," by Alan Watt".  To contribute to the project without spending the time on a novel, I wrote a short story or small play using some of the guidance from the book.

                    • give the name you want use, and click enter.
                    • If you don't see the enter button at the bottom of your screen, 
                    • go to full screen or shrink the size of your display.
                    • To shrink the display in Chrome:
