2016 HELP: Phantoms are good for your virtual world. Lagbusters

Phantoms are good for your virtual world,
Lag on a sim in a virtual world can result from the load on your server.  You can reduce sim load by making all objects phantom unless they need to be solid. Here are some tips on keeping the phantoms around your sim.
This object is phantom
  • Phantom objects look solid and they will notice a click if they are scripted.
  • But avatars can walk right through them.
  • You can make an object phantom by editing it, as in the Firestorm edit panel above.
  • Open the object panel and check the Phantom box.
  • In Firestorm, you can make phantom the default when you create things.
  • The server has to take time to handle every collision.
  • Nothing collides with a phantom, so lower lag.
  • (More after the break, scroll down!)

Metaverse events, current and upcoming

Firestorm can set objects to phantom when you create them.

  • Prefrences, Firestorm, Build 1 tab
  • Set and forget--anything you create starts as phantom.
  • You can set things to non-phantom in the edit panel.
Firestorm Build 1
creation default panel
  • Phantom--people can walk (or fall) through them.
  • Non-phantom--They act like solids, but will ignore gravity.
  • Physical--They act as if influenced by gravity.
