          Main ideas

          • Stakeholder concept -- everyone who is active in the virtual world community  is a stakeholder with an interest in how it develops.
          • Stakeholders need representation in how the virtual world develops.  
          • Many of us want to attract more people:  Especially content creators, performers, event producers, and grid operators. 
          • A browser-based viewer could offer a great improvement in attracting and onboarding new people so the announcement from Halcyon that it is developing such a viewer is stirring this pot.
          • A browser based viewer, coupled with community based marketing, could be the tipping point that opens virtual worlds to a mass market.  
          • We think it is time to organize a group to speak for the interests of all the stakeholders. 
          • Such an an organization would Identify needs as seen by stakeholders in the virtual worlds community and would seek ways to meet those needs.  
          • For some needs, this work might take the form of coordinated advertising and marketing.   
          • For other needs, especially for the virtual worlds infrastructure, the organization might seek funding from nonprofit sources for particular projects. 
          •  At least one nonprofit is interested in supporting the more rapid and organized development of open-source virtual worlds, but it cannot do so without an organized plan supported by the community of users. 
          • The proposed solution: Our informal group is seeking to organize a group of community members willing and able to represent all interested stakeholders in the community and also able to make sound technical judgments about what can be accomplished within a reasonable time and budget.
