2016 OSHG: PEOPLE: Cybalounge--Another virtual world on your browser. OSHG project

Cybalounge--Another virtual world on your browser
Another demonstration of virtual worlds on a browser.  And some discussion about what we can do with this feature.

 Goal of Cybalounge

Our aim is to provide a three-dimensional metaverse platform for recreational, educational and business/collaboration purposes. To achieve this we will share the tools to create all kinds of content by users for users. We expect cybaLOUNGE to grow day by day, offering new experiences all the time.
************
  • These people mean business.
  • Go there: Cybalounge
  • Look at the promotional efforts on facebook: Cybalounge on Facebook.
  • This world seem to be very slow now.  Maybe they should talk to Kitely.
-
  • Facebook for social media promotion:  I invited about 100 friends to see the page.
  • Previous article: Virtual world on a browser. Demo now. Coming in Halcyon
  • There may be a million people looking at that web page.
  • But when you go there you are all alone.
  • In a virtual world, you are never alone unless you want to be.

Metaverse events, current and upcoming

Some services could shift to the web page

  • Instead of inworld voice, you can use Skype.
  • No need for inworld music--a web page can play music.
  • Notecards, instant messages, group messages--
  • The web already handles communications well.
  • You can set up your own contact list.

Hypergridding?

  • You would not expect that and you don't have it.
  • But you can go to another grid just by loading another page.
  • You don't need to register to explore these grids.
  • You could chat with people there.
  • You can attend a party, a dance, or a class in any grid like these.

Commercial applications

  • Entry without registration is freemium.
  • If you want an inventory, you have to register.
  • Someone could offer a web-wide inventory.
  • Kitely already offers a web-wide market service.

Community applications

  • Communities could create their own entry pages.
  • A sailing community would invite people:
  • "Come in and sail with us.   We'll show you how. " (insert times)
  • A performance community would invite people:
  • "Music, stage plays, and comedy.  You attend for free."  (Insert times)
  • As for tips, put a Paypal button on the web page.
  • A teaching community would invite people
  • "Come in to practice your English.  Daily at...."  (Insert times)

              1. Registering at Cyberlounge wasn't that easy, and trying to load it on Chrome on my computer got error messages. I was able to successfully register, after a few tries, on the Mosaic Firefox browser. But when I tried to log in, I got the Not Found error - "The requested document was not found on this server."

              2. And an update - after a few tries, I was able to log in. To horrible music, which I figured out how to mute fairly easily. Someone named Tester commented on how laggy it was, and it was. I wasn't able to get my mouse into the chat line and had to force a quit to get out of there. The graphics quality is not good either, and I wasn't able to get to a place to try uploading something, though it looked as though that process might be straight-forward. I'm in favor of a browser approach, but not if it's more difficult than a viewer.

                1. A word from Cybalounge's creator:
I am sorry you experienced such difficulties, but maybe I will be able to fix some of these.
I am developing Cybalounge on a 2013 Macbook pro and it is usually running with 40 to 60 frames per second using the latest Chrome browser. But from tests with different hardware I know that the graphics card drivers for WebGL (used to run 3D in the browser) are not as sophisticated and well maintained like the drivers for OpenGL (used by SL and OpenSim viewers). This is especially true for older hardware.
I am trying my best to support as much hardware as possible. Cybalounge does even run on many Chromebooks.
Right now I am creating a new landing area (using the inworld tools) which should give better performance (hopefully).
Again, I am sorry for any problems with using Cybalounge but I appreciate the feedback, which helps to make things better in the future.

                2. hi again @Ada
I published a new location "Orientation" which you could give another try. Not much to do there but I am curious about the performance (it runs with 60 frames per second on my machine).
If there are still problems, please let me know what hardware/software you are using (CPU, graphics card, operating system, browser/version).

                  thank you and kind regards
