Money on the hypergrid is not that simple. 
HGProjects 
People coming to the hypergrid from a monogrid world like Second Life or Inworldz are likely to be confused about money.  Monogrids usually have their own money and it is, of course, the same all over the grid.  Hypergrid is a multigrid environment.  You can easily TP to a different grid via the hypergrid protocol.  Since money is managed at the grid level, going to a different grid may take you to a different money system.  You deal in different currency, the currency may not be controvertible to dollars, the money you had in your home grid may not be available or useful to you in another grid.

What happens

You go to another grid; they use a different currency. You currency is useless or seems
to be gone.

You sing on another grid.  You could get tips in their currency, but you can't exchange that for your real money and have no way to spend that currency.

        What to do

        You go to another grid; they use a different currency. You currency is useless or seems to be gone.

        • Don't worry about currency on your home grid when you are away.
        • It will be there when you get back home.  
        • You may not be able to buy the currency on another grid,
        • if you are not a registered user there.
        • Be careful about buying currency on other grids. 
        • You may not be able to cash it out if you don't spend it.
        • Look on Kitely Market for buying things.
        • You can buy things there for US dollars there if you want.

        You sing on another grid.  You could get tips in their currency, but you can't exchange that for your real money and have no way to spend that currency.
