OpenSim Treasure Hunt.  Hunt across the Hypergrid.
Jan 31 to March 1.  An HGProject

A treasure hunt as wide at the Hypergrid!   Just the thing to give reason to explore the Hypergrid.  Grids and regions that participate get extra visibility and traffic.  They can give gifts with landmarks and promotional content.  Users can pick up useful gifts and can discover new HG places.  This could be a lasting institution on the HG.

• OpenSim Treasure Hunt Jan 31 to March 1.
• Grids/hints
• STARTS - Jan-31-2016 08:00:00 -

2015 WRITE: P2P: Community blogging your virtual world. HGProjects

Community blogging your virtual world

Maybe it is a grid-wide community.  Maybe it is a themed community such as sailing, railroading, or flying.  Maybe it is a venue-oriented community, promoting entertainment events.  If you want to bring in more people, promote beyond the inworld.  Promote to the outworld.  Here is how to use blogs to do that,

• A Virtual World Magazine could also be a blog
• Blog to tell, publicize, or promote. Summary
• Collaborative blogging, invited articles. Overview

2016 HG: PROMO: The Hypergrid Welcome Center begins operation. The HGProject. BeatThis

The Hypergrid Welcome Center begins operation.

The HG project.  BeatThis

Recently Tom Frost proposed the development of a Hypergrid Welcome Center (HWC).  To support that effort he created a Google+ community of the same name.  Here is a report of the first development resulting from that suggestion.  Isis Ophelia has built a sim, Arcana, to serve as a HG Welcome center.  The development is ongoing.  Isis would welcome donations of freebie content suitable for newcomers

2015 PROMO: HG: Stores: lose the roof, put a sign on the floor

Stores: lose the roof, put a sign on the floor

In a virtual world people fly. The also cam up to get an overview of the place.  And it does not rain.   So the roof is not just unnecessary, it cuts off a valuable promotion view.  It is there to look like the stores in the old world.  Here are some suggestions on making better use of the new world in your computer.

Roofless shows more

• A sign on the floor would show even more
• Image taken at the Kitely Merchant's fair.

2016 HG: NEW: Skills analysis for new people in virtual worlds and for the HGProject

Skills analysis for new people in virtual worlds
and for HGProjects

To bring people into virtual worlds, we need to teach them how to use virtual worlds.  That means we need to specify the skills needed to use virtual worlds.  So we start with a skills analysis.

• Here I propose a straw-man version, based on my policy:
• It does not have to be right at the start--just at the finish.
• I will later propose some instructional plans or report on existing instruction.

Basic skills--needed by everyone

• Log on and off
• Move avatar locally: walk, fly
• View control:  Zoom, cam around
• Manage inventory
• Interact with things: Sit, stand, click
• Communicate: Typed chat, Voice, IM
• Interact with people:  Identify, find, friend
• Avatar select, wear, adjust
• Play local music
• Teleport, ingrid and over HG

2016 P2P: The Drax Files: People get together

The Drax Files:  People get together

A video account of people  who started using a virtual world to make a living and progressed to using it to make a marriage.

• Watch on YouTube

The mainstream media likes to point out how "living online" destroys relationships in the "real" world but for one American-Scottish couple the virtual world of Second Life became a facilitator: a conduit to finding each other's "soulmate".
