For teacher-centric, probably not.  Just lower costs. 

For student-centric, learning goes beyond classrooms.

Can digital classrooms replace the physical ones?  If they can replace half the contact hours, they offer a huge cost-saving in facilities.

• These examples are more likely to replace the textbook than the classroom.
• After elementary school, most of my learning came from the textbook, not from class.
• From class, I got the reading assignment.  
• Then in the next class we sat quietly while the teacher asked questions to embarrass the students who had not read the assignment.

What would the educational metaverse do?

• Following the teacher-centric model it would serve as a textbook, not the classroom.
• Even so, the school system could benefit from shifting part of school time to online.
• Online.  Not necessarily to the metaverse. 
• The reading assignment could certainly be given online. 
• And with the online model every student could answer those formative questions.
• The shift might not do much to improve instruction, but it would reduce costs.
• With part time attendance, a school building might handle two or three times the number of students.   
• Educational facilities: costs. Cost per square foot. Cost per student. Physical versus virtual. The savings could go into educational services
• I can hear teachers now saying "The savings would go to management."
• But a lot would have to go to digital management.
• I am sure some entrepreneurial teachers would think of becoming digital coaches.
