2020 #VWEDU: #DTA: "In a digital place, nobody knows what color you are." The power of avatar choice on a digital campus. Appearance and identity

"In a digital place, nobody knows what color you are."
The power of avatar choice on a digital campus.
Appearance and identity

Thoughts about appearance and identity, with assistance from an old cartoon and Yoda.

  • "On the internet nobody knows you're a dog."
  • I read of some appalling experiences of black adolescents in high school.
  • So I repurposed the famous line above.
  • In digital place you have an avatar to represent you.
  • It can be any color you want.
  • It doesn't even have to look human.
  • In fact, there is a lot of talk about avatar identity.
  • "Judge me by my appearance, do you?"
