2016 HG: NEW: Starting in a virtual world with Firestorm: Manage the buttons

Starting in a virtual world with Firestorm:
Manage the buttons
Firestorm comes with a lot of buttons on the viewer screen and even more, hidden but available to you,  Few people will want all of these buttons on the viewer screen. Most of the buttons are shortcuts to actions that are available under menus.  You won't know immediately which ones you want, so this page offers suggestions on how to select and arrange the buttons to suit you.

Firestorm viewer buttons
  • When you first log in with Firestorm, there will be lots of buttons on your screen.
  • You won't want all the buttons, so you will hide some off screen.
  • But you can't decide which ones you want till later.
  • You can easily hide and restore the buttons, so try several options.

What is the value of the buttons to me?

  • Some buttons offer a one-click way to start things you do often.
  • Some buttons let you start things when you don't know any other way.
  • Some buttons may show you things you can do that you did not know about.

Manage the buttons

  • If the buttons don't show labels, you can get labels:
  • Right-click any button and click on 'Icons and labels.'
-
  • To see hidden buttons, right-click any button, click 'Toolbar buttons.'
  • This is especially useful to know when you realized you hid the wrong button.
  • To use a button, drag it to the bottom (or side) of your viewer screen.
  • To remove a button, right click on it, click  "Remove this button"
  • To arrange buttons, click and drag any button to the place you want it.
  • Many of the actions produced by the buttons have other ways to call them.
  • Some are in menus, some can be called by key combinations, like Ctrl-m.
  • Menus often take several clicks to get what you want and can be hard to find.
  • Key combinations are the fastest access, if you can remember them.
