A game has the critical elements of a typical story. There is a quest, a series of barriers to be overcome, and a resolution.  Indeed most effective presentations use those elements.

  • Plan of action
  • Projected outcome

I think games or short stories provide excellent models for the broad structure of project planning -- or of any unit of achievement.  You could say  that games and stories are a tool for for cultural instruction on how to accomplish things.    Instruction by example.  Learn by doing.  Set a goal (quest).  Plan a set of steps that go from where you are to where you want to be.
