As part of the planning for the OSHG Development Committee, the organizing committee is preparing subcommittee objectives for the main committees we think will be needed.  The Development Committee will handle its own committees once it is organized.

  • The mission statement, subcommittee list, and subcommittee objectives here 
  • will be revised by the OSHG Development Committee in the future.
  • If you want to be on a committee, contact Don Smith in Kitely or
  • Indicate your interest in comments to this blog, with your contact info.
  • You can be on more than one committee. 
  • We are designing this committee structure to be suitable for 501C3 support.

Preliminary mission statement of the OSHG Development Committee

The mission of the OSHG Development Committee (OSGCC) is to foster the development of OpenSim by identifying the growth objectives of the OS community and developing plans for meeting those objectives.   

Technical committees (overall objectives)

  • To keep informed about the current status and projects in a specific subject area.
  • To advise the OSGCC about essential elements such as documentation and backup.
  • To recommend future projects to meet the needs of the OS Community.
  • To prepare a long-term plan ("roadmap") leading to the capabilities desired by the OS community.

Main Tech Committees  (detailed objectives)

  • OpenSimulator tech subcommittee
  • Keep informed about the current OS software in development or released.
  • Advise OSGCC about current development objectives and progress.
  • Make recommendations for future OS development based on input from the OS community 
  • Assess the current modularity of OS software and, as needed, form special subcommittees for specific modules.
  • (Special subcommittees would do the OS tech subcommittee tasks on specific modules.)
  • Prepare its part of the long-term map described in the overall objectives,

  • Halcyon-MOSES liaison subcommittee
  • Keep informed about the current Halcyon software in development or released.
  • Advise OSGCC about current development objectives and progress for Halcyon
  • Recommend to OSGCC any elements that might contribute to OS software.
  • Keep Halcyon developers informed as to what is happening in OS software.

  • Viewers subcommittee
  • Keep informed about the current developments in viewers.
  • Build contacts with 3rd party viewer developers such as Firestorm
  • Advise OSGCC about current development objectives and progress for viewers,
  • Give the OSGCC recommendations about current issues raised in the OS community.
  • (Examples: OS-specific viewer, web-based viewer, user limitations)

  • Script engines subcommittee
  • Keep informed about the current developments in script engines.
  • Advise OSGCC about current development objectives and progress for script engines.
  • Give the OSGCC recommendations about related issues raised in the OS community.
  • (Examples:  OS-specific viewer, web-based viewer.)

  • Physics engines subcommittee
  • Keep informed about the current developments in physics engines
  • Advise OSGCC about current development objectives and progress in physics engines
  • Give the OSGCC recommendations about related issues raised in the OS community.

  • Database subcommittee
  • Keep informed about the current developments in database use in OS
  • Advise OSGCC about current development objectives and progress in DB use
  • Give the OSGCC recommendations about related issues raised in the OS community

  • Hypergrid subcommittee
  • Keep informed about the current developments in Hypergrid
  • Advise OSGCC about current development objectives and progress in Hypergrid
  • Give the OSGCC recommendations about related issues raised in the OS community
  • Advise OSGCC about security issues raised by MOSES.

Stakeholder committees (overall objectives)

  • The objective of each stakeholder committee is to discover and represent the interests of its designated community to the OSGCC 
  • And to keep the community informed about activities of the OSGCC 
  • Communities to be represented include all communities that might benefit from using OpenSim (definition of stakeholder).
  • Examples: entertainers, content creators, housebound, educators, librarians, grid operators.
  • The committee will identify and follow major communication channels (such as G+) used by the community.
  • As needed, the committee will use the communication channels to ask about the position of the community on  matters being considered by the OSGCC 

Outreach committees (General)  

  • Maintain close contact with OS communities.
  • Help OS communities to publicize their activities to the outworld.
  • Identify and follow social media sites that report on OSHG activities
  • Keep OSHG communities aware of opportunities to use social media for promotion.

Outreach committees  (Details)

  • Visibility of OpenSim
  • Identify and develop ways to promote activities on OpenSim to the public.
  • Help OS communities promote their activities to the public.

  • Social good
  • Identify and publicize OS activities that promote social good.
  • Examples of social goods are: Education and libraries, the Arts, and aids for people with handicaps.

  • Ease of access
  • Identify and promote developments that will make OS easier to access and use by non-tech people and people with handicaps.

    The Hypergrid WIP Show

    The Hypergrid WIP is a one hour "show & tell" of works in progress or recently completed. All builders from beginner to pro are invited.  Presentations are in voice and text.  For text presentations, best bring the text in a notecard and paste it into chat.  Voice presentations may be captured in video.  Stills and videos from the show may appear in this blog and elsewhere.

              1. I have interest in serving the main committee as well as some subcommittees. I am not able to determine which Don Smith on G+ is the correct one. Please add me to your circles so I know who you are thanks!

                Is there a website for this effort where I can see the complete organization, mission, objectives, etc?
