Preparing a video set.  AMP notes
  • We make the mistakes so you don't have to

Requirements for a video set in prep for a scene:

  • Matches script.
  • The position of each character in the scene is marked
  • with a character mark or a poseball.
  • Non-playing characters (NPCs) are placed as needed.
  • Set is dressed:  Set dresser
  • Outdoor shot sites have appropriate background.
  • Everything on the set has appropriate licensing.
  • Everything purchased has export perms (Kitely Market).
  • Everything is owned by a company officer and set to "Anyone can copy" (Kitely).
  • Set lighting is planned
  • Low lag.

Poseballs

Set with poseballs
  • The poseballs mark the places for the characters
Junior sits (poseball)

  • The poseball fixes Junior in a sitting pose.
  • The avateer right clicks on the pose ball, selects sit.
  • Editing to move the poseball moves the posed avatar.

Dressing the set

  • Set dressers arrange objects on a set before shooting.
  • They place furniture, hang pictures, and put out decorative items.

To create a location mark for a character.

  • Used to mark position without fixing pose.
  • As when character must move under control of avateer.
  • Rez a cube.  .5 on a side will do for starters.
  • Edit the cube: flatten the vertical to .1 meter.
  • Set it phantom and transparent.
  • Name it for the character you are placing.
  • In Contents, put a floating text script.
  • Floating text is turned off along with the user interface for capture
  • Edit the script to float the character's name.
  • Place it  on the character's mark.
  • Take a copy.
  • Name the copy for another character.
  • Change the floating text to the new name.
  • Place it  on the new character's mark.
  • Repeat for all characters in the shot.

To use a character mark

  • The avateer can see the floating text.
  • For a more precise location, avateer uses Ctrl+Alt+t.
  • to highlight the transparent mark.

NPCs work as extras and inactive characters

  • We use non-playing characters (NPCs) as part of the set.
  • The NPC controller box can be made phantom and transparent.
  • Clicking the controller box toggles between NPC rezzed and NPC gone.
  • Editing to move the controller box moves the NPC.
  • To remove the NPC from the set, first get the NPC gone.
  • That means click the box if needed.
  • Then take the NC box.
  • Most scenes can be written to use no more than three active characters.
  • The rest can be NPCs.

NPCs play inactive characters

To minimize lag

  • Limit each sim to a single set.
  • For $20 a month, you can create 5 premium worlds in Kitely
  • Additional worlds will cost a little over a dollar a month.
  • So multiple worlds (sims) are no big deal.
  • Set to phantom everything that can be phantom
  • Keep script load as low as possible.
  • Check script load: World/Region Details/ Debug/Get Top Scripts
  • Script load will change often as events trigger different scripts.
  • Keep particle load down, only run particles when needed for a shot.

How to handle a Hypergrid address

From any Hypergrid-enabled grid, paste the address into the address bar of Firestorm and press enter. Or paste it into the world map search bar of any viewer, search, and click Teleport when the destination is found. If it doesn't work, don't give up. Try again in couple of minutes.  Sometimes the first try fails (probably times out).  And try again a few hours later. Some hypergrid destinations are offline part of the day.
If you get an address like this:
 hg.francogrid.org:80:Residence-09:/119/128/190
paste it into the address bar of Firestorm, see if it takes you to the exact coordinates.
