2017 BIZ: Side services from grids. Search, events, messages. Product differentiation

Side services from grids.  Search, events, messages.
Product differentiation
In addition to running a version of the OpenSimulator software, grids can offer support services such as search, message handling, event calendar, backup, recovery, forums, and technical help. They can offer these, but they may not. Commercial grids may be providing these services or are probably considering them.

In SL we took some services for granted

There were also services we wished we could take for granted

  • Technical help
  • Prompt attention to system problems
  • We probably do get these from the commercial grids.
  • I know we get them from Kitely.  I think they also provided in Digiworldz.

Since I am on Kitely, I know about the services offered by Kitely and mention some of them here.  Other commercial grids may offer similar services or may introduce them soon.

I read your Blog post Selby. As always very good.
You mentioned Digiworldz and because I have had regions there since 2 years, I know what they offer. Passing the information to you.
    1) Viewer Search works the same as it did in SL.
    4) Classifieds listings are free and work in viewer searches
    5) Objects on the land are included in the viewer Search, if the object/product owner does not forget to check mark "Show in Search" on the object
    6) DW has a Forum
    7) DW has a Region management web console. Besides re-starting single regions, the Region owner can even enter a region manager in the panel. Useful, if one rents a region or during long vacations.
    8) The avatar account panel includes Transactions History
    9) Offline private Messages are sent to external email
    10) Group Notices are sent to external email as well
    11) The real life customer panel offers an overview of the region billings. A region can be cancelled or added from there. Prims packages can be added or reduced.
    12) DW has a G+ Community and a Twitter account. I think, they got also a Facebook account, but not sure about it.
    13) Region backups happen daily. They are saved for 30 days. When it happens and I am online I've seen a notification is sent to the region announcing the backup has started + finished
    14) Region owners can ask to upload an oar into their region
    15) Technical and other support: a filed ticket is answered in less than 24 hrs and mostly in minutes or in less than 2 hours.
    16) Regions re-start automatically in case they have gone offline. I crashed often my region, when testing NPCs lol
    17) After a region is purchased it is online after minutes, longest after 1-2 hours.
    18) Since 2 years the only time the grid has been offline was when they applied a new opensim version or patches and once, when they had a denial of service attack
    19) All DW regions are open for the HG. Private regions: The region owner can opt to be open for the HG or not.
    20) Selling land to other residents works well. Renting parcels and stores for money works well too
    21) Weekly residents meetings with the DW staff
    22) Events and News appear on the Splash screen

ok I might have forgotten to mention something lol not sure but the above is what I use often and know it works there.
