or at least some risk factors

My avatar appearance got corrupted recently.  Two other people have had the same problem.  I found some fixes, short of a clean reinstall of Firestorm 64, and, with only 3 cases, I begin to speculate about risk factors.

Update: Fred B. suggested that I rebake textures, but that does not fix it.  The only cure I know is to relog in Firestorm 32 bit and change avatars.  It is probably a bug introduced with the code that makes FS adjust to HD screens.

Where the problem appears

  • On my new machine with HD screen: 3840x2160
  • Using Firestorm 64 bit
  • Using Intel integrated graphics 

Where the problem goes away

My simple solution

  • Use Firestorm 32 bit on my new machine.  
  • The suitcase folder is sometimes missing from inventory in FS 32.
  • To get it, I click on the gear graphic, bottom left.
  • Then click the show filters button on the panel that comes up.  
  • Then click Always show folders on the filters panel.
  • This setting may not stick, so I may have to do this whenever I need the Suitcase

In the Filters panel, 

click "Always show folders"


  • If I ever have reason to use FS 64 on my new machine, I can use the Nvidea card.
  • I avoid that because it heats my machine a lot and I find Intel integrated adequate.

The Hypergrid WIP Show

  • The Hypergrid WIP is a one hour "show & tell" of works in progress. 
  • Everyone is invited.  Building, scripting, entertainment-- whatever you are working on.
  • Selby may capture video of presentations in voice, for posting on YouTube.
  • The WIP show normally meets on 2 Sundays a month at 12 pm California time.
  • The show meets at the Pandora location on the second Sunday 
  • But may not meet in the summer.
  • And at Cookie II on the fourth Sunday.
