How will web-worlds from OpenSim start?

The reception room model
Updated 2/4/2017
A path is emerging that will probably lead to the appearance of some OpenSim worlds on the web in the form of miniworlds. These will be limited in capability, objects, and size. These will be rather like reception rooms where people can see what we have to offer and can talk with some of us about why they would want to go to the trouble of coming into the metaverse.
- This is virtual worlds lite-- very lite.
- It is for those people still back in the old, flat, browser world.
- Millions of people there, but you don't see any of them on a webpage.
- Easy to get to a page, but you are mostly a passive observer.
- Those browser people don't know that we can add doors to other worlds.
- Those web-worlds will be very limited from the viewpoint of hypergridders,
- But look at it it from the viewpoint of people who think the browser world is flat.
- The OSHG project.
- Web-worlds, progress and possibilities: Summary
Web Graphics Library
WebGL (Web Graphics Library) is a JavaScript API for rendering 3D graphics within any compatible web browser without the use of plug-ins.[2] WebGL is integrated completely into all the web standards of the browser allowing GPU accelerated usage of physics and image processing and effects as part of the web page canvas. WebGL elements can be mixed with other HTML elements and composited with other parts of the page or page background.[3] WebGL programs consist of control code written in JavaScript and shader code that is written in GLSL, a language similar to C or C++, and is executed on a computer's Graphics Processing Unit (GPU).
How do we build the first browser worlds from OpenSim?
- We start with OARs, built and saved under OpenSimulator.
- We use a converter to produce files that work with WebGL, such as BabylonJS.
- Those files can be used to put a virtual world on a web page.
- See: Punk Office as an example of a web world from BabylonJS.
- Marcus is using a loader that loads objects as needed so it seems fast.
We need miniworlds
- We need fast load on low bandwidth on a low cost computer.
- So we need to keep the miniworld as simple as possible.
- With a minimum of objects (each object loads separately).
- The miniworlds can have voice.
- Cybalounge updated: now with voice!
- The website can carry the text we usually give as notecards and posters.
- Cybalounge loads on my $260 laptop.
We would use the miniworlds for promotion
- Many of our communities already have websites suited for miniworlds.
- A miniworld can be embedded in a web page as we do with YouTube.
- We could also have visiting hours, meaning our people there.
- Too much world for one miniworld? Put more miniworlds on the website.
- And we can send people to our G+ and FB communities.
- The miniworlds are nothing like what we want in OpenSim.
- But just what we want to promote to the outworld on the web
