View from the arrival point
- Lots of instructions at the arrival point
- But visitors will only read what they want to find out.
- I would favor making bigger titles for the boards.
- But I like having a lot of information promptly available.
Services and stuff at the arrival point
- A summary of what the Welcome Center offers
- I like having a summary here because it tells me what to look fr
- Instructions on how to get support
- Recommendations to join the community chat group
- I would break this info up into 3 signs.
- Too much text in one place discourages reading and reduces recall.
- Fortunately it is cheap and easy to make signs in virtual worlds.
Grid events calendar
- 3rd Rock event calendar. Not Google, though
- If it were Google, you would not just offer a link
- You would put the live calendar right here--and on your web site, too
- Using the Kitely calendar--or any other Google calendar for events
- 3rd Rock Grid is noted for having frequent events.
- Good variety, including little people and animals
Walkin TPs to shopping and free avatars
- Walkin teleports work well in OpenSim within a grid.
- But you do have own the land or be a manger to place one.
- These use OSSL functions, which are not available in LSL.
-
Showcase of places
- Anytime you tell people about a place, you should provide a way to go there.
- For this situation, I favor a walkin teleports.
-
Beginner instructions
- This welcome center is set up for newcomers to virtual worlds,
- Not depending on previous learning in Second Life
- Foresight here. OpenSim needs to attract new people.
- It can't depend on Second Life forever.

Build school
- Is it a good idea to present building along with beginner stuff?
- Virtual worlds, the myth of the steep learning curve
- The are lots of things to enjoy in virtual worlds without building.
- This looks like a good set of instructions but I would recommend:
- Beginner's building on Hypergrid. Primland, the building tutorial game
- Beginer's building on Hypergrid. Primland, the building tutorial game, Part 2
- These places not only teach, but show virtual worlds as instructional tools.
