First Page Short Poetry Workshop-Tue 9/22, 7pm SLT

This week is “First Page” poetry based on the first page of your favorite author. Imagine the author started a new book but never finished it. What sort of poem could you make out of just that first page? Use the first page as a prompt, a found poem, a summary or write your own version of the book. Bring the first page of a favorite book or even one you don’t like, to write your poem.

Audience:  Who are you promoting to?

    • The lazy answer is "Anybody who will listen."
    • Who wants what you are promoting?
    • Think demographics.
    • Think related interests.

    Do you have a graphic?

    Where will you promote it?

What do you want the reader to notice first?

    • Is that in the headline?
    • In the graphic?
    • In the first bullet point?
    • In the first words of the first paragraph?

What is your audience interested in?

    • Did you open by talking about that?
    • Forget about yourself.  Think about what interests them.

What words will catch their attention?

    • Are those words prominent in the title, the graphic, and the text

What action do you want from the reader?

    • Is that early and clear
    • How does the reader know what to do?
    • Did you make it easy for the reader to do it?
    • Did you give and check web links and HG addresses?

Have you shown the time frame and time zone?

    • Hypergrid is world wide.
    • Clock time without a reference time zone is useless.
    • Hypergridders are mostly accustomed to translating from California time
    • US changes to and from Daylight Saving Time
    • Universal Time (UT) is probably in our future.
    • 7 pm Pacific Daylight Time = ?  Central Daylight Time
    • Gets the converted time from Google.
    • US goes off and on Daylight Time on its own schedule.

When do people have to take action?

    • Put it on your calendar NOW!
    • If you sent a Google invitation, Yes or Maybe will put it on the Google calendar.
    • Make reservation?
    • Arrive at venue?

Have you shown how to get there?

    • In the host grid, use the Firestorm hop:
    • hop://grid.kitely.com:8002/Cookie II/490/458/100
    • To get the Firestorm Hop, go where you want them to land, click the Nav bar, copy,
    • Hypergrid, use Hypergrid address.
    • Grid address: grid.kitely.com:8002/Cookie II
    • Paste grid address into the World Map next to Find.  Click Find.
    • Travelling with Firestorm. Local, nearby, ingrid, Hypergrid, summary

    Can you show urgency?

    • And is that right in front of the reader?
    • Did you show the reader what to do, when and how?

Have you sent a press release to the virtual worlds bloggers?

    • Good start for your blogger list: Check my blog roll (column on the right)
    • Check several days--only the most recent articles will show.
    • Include release date.  Best choice is immediate release
