Beginner help

The help given here is only what you need to know to get started.  There are other ways to do things.  You may try them out  later and find that you prefer them.

Opensim:  OpenSimulator is an open-source server platform for hosting virtual worlds. It is compatible with the client for Second Life and can host alternative worlds with differing feature sets with multiple protocols

Hypergrid:  The hypergrid is an extension to Opensim that allows you to link your Opensim grid to other Opensim grids on the internet and supports seamless agent transfers among those grids

Virtual world:  A virtual world or massively multiplayer online world (MMOW) is a computer-based simulated environment.  The term has become largely synonymous with interactive 3D virtual environments, where the users take the form of avatars visible to others.
