Kit: About this blog. Misssion, goals, themes

Mission, goals, themes

Thinkerer's Mission: Foster creativity and creative collaboration though the medium of virtual worlds
Creative Collaboration. Not just a slogan anymore...
Objective of this blog:  Show people what they need to know to get the best out of virtual worlds and to suggest lines of creative thinking about how to exploit the potential of virtual worlds
Concretizing the objective
  • report on the developing infrastructure of virtual worlds to suggest the fan of future possibilities
  • report on lines of creative collaboration that seem to be emerging
  • suggest lines of potential creative collaboration that I expect to emerge
  • Report on ways to monetize inworld creativity with revenue from the physical world
Themes:
I think the themes below include all the major components to accomplish the goals above.  I may think of new themes in the future.

I will generally identify the theme or sub theme in the title of the post. I hope that will make it easier to search the blog.
  • Kit; Things people need to know to get the best out of Second Life
  • Tech: Sub-themes: OpenSim, Viewers, Second Life developments
  • Media: Sub-themes: Media-to-the web, Art, Music, Comedy, Theater, Video, Hobbies, Games
  • Education: Sub-themes: Conferences, Creative learning environments, Learning Games
  • Team Sub-themes: Collaborations, Head team, Collaboration resources
  • Events: Sub-themes: Entertainment, Virtual meetings.
  • Money: Sub-themes: Enterprises, products, services.
I am looking for reports and news releases that fit these themes.  If you have a report or release that you want me to consider, the best way to contact me is to send a notecard to Thinkerer Melville in Second Life.  Be sure to include relevant slurls and web links.  You can include pictures if you want.

You can also make a comment on this blog. In that case, your post should carry the news you want to release.  I may not pick up the information immediately.  But if I see something that calls for follow-up, I will get back to it when I have time.

Please note that I am primarily interested in actionable content--content that I think some readers could use in things they are doing.

Publishing schedule
I have picked publishing times to fit the benefits of shared-media posters in Second Life.  I have several  of these displaying the current blog post.

By 8:00 AM SLT  Schedule of events that I think people may be interested in.  The schedule also carries links to calendars related to some of my themes.  I am looking for other calendars related to more themes.

10:00 AM SLT.  Main feature story representing one of my themes.  Preferablly carries a picture, since it will be up on my shared media posters through much of the day.

4:00 PM SLT.  Late-breaking news or secondary feature representing another of my themes.

11:00 PM SLT. (As needed)  Additional theme-related item primarily of evergreen interest.

Aggregations: Executive Summaries, organized collections
From time to time, I will post an  Executive Summary or a collection of suggested items on a theme  or sub-theme.  An Executive Summary (for busy people) starts with bullet points about the major developments covered in the report.  The remaining content carries links or annotated links to the items supporting the summary.

An organized collection (for example, the Kit) gathers evergreen posts into a convenient table of contents.  The Kit gets new contents as I rework items from the inworld kit or find need for new items.  The Kit will be cumulative, keeping all the evergreen content at hand.

Follow this blog
You can subscribe to this blog by clicking on the Follow button in the column to the right.  Scroll down--it is near the bottom.  You can also use Google Reader or any other rss feed.  I use Google Reader because it is simple to set up.

Notes
Evergreen content = Content of persistent interest.  Evergreen content is likely to be of value in response to a particular need, so an important part of managing it is to arrange for people to find it when they want it.    The Kit is an attempt to do that.

Concretizing =  Translating abstract terms into concrete descriptions that people can imagine, see, touch, or do. A key step in planning anything.

Concretize.  Use words that say what you would see, hear, or handle.

You know what abstract means.  Do you know what concretize means?

Nobody does anything in the abstract.
