Web-on-prim and OpenSim

Web-on-prim
That's the main benefit that Viewer 2 offers.   That benefit used to be exclusive to Viewer 2 and to Second Life.  No longer.

"The new 0.7 version of OpenSim will allow residents to use the same media-on-a-prim feature that Second Life rolled out this past spring, OSGrid administrator David Coyle told Hypergrid Business.

Residents will need to use Second Life Viewer 2 to use the feature, however, until third-party viewers roll out their support for it."

Web-on-prim will provide a valuable way for multi-grid communities to stay in contact and share information--provided they have a community blog.

Self resettting web-on-prim 10/12/10 TKR

A prim browser is a live webpage and I want everyone to be able to manipulate the ones I set out.  But then the display gets changed from the home page.  So I wrote a script to reset to the home page every fifteen minutes.

As a bonus, the scripted version sets the prim to any url you put in the script,  So you don't need to bother with making a web prim--just use the full perm prim and change the url.

You can get it in the latest Hobo Kit here:

Other uses for  Browser-on--prim
----------------------
Browser on Prim, Update

I am finding Browser on Prim to be quite useful.   Second Life standard Viewer 2 series (2.1.1 is the current version) offers it.  Other viewers may offer it in beta versions.

Here are some of the uses I have found.
----------------------------
Pocket calendar
If you want to promote your scheduled events, maybe you that to give away pocket calendars.  Not the old fashioned kind that you put on a notecard.   New, self-updating pocket  calendars that read your current calendar from your website.

Browser on Prim spreads. Now in OpenSim

The
SL Viewer 2 on the hypergrid – Hypergrid Business:
"The wait is now over.
The latest release of OpenSim, 0.7.1,includes support forSL Viewer 2, including the media-on-a-prim feature.

Grid4Us was one of the first grids to roll out the new release of OpenSim."
